Yirrama Community Hub: What’s Coming to Charlemont in 2027?
CHARLEMONT COMMUNITY UPDATE | NOVEMBER 2026
A major new community hub is preparing to open in Charlemont, bringing kindergarten programs, family health services and shared community spaces to one of Geelong’s fastest-growing residential areas.
Families across Charlemont, Armstrong Creek and Mount Duneed have a new community facility to look forward to as the region continues to grow.
The Yirrama Community Hub is a purpose-built facility being developed in Charlemont, alongside Yirrama Primary School.
The project brings together early childhood education, maternal and child health services, allied health facilities and community spaces, providing a central location for local families and community groups.
With an anticipated opening in January 2027 and kindergarten applications already available, here’s what residents should know about the new facility.

What Is the Yirrama Community Hub?
The Yirrama Community Hub is being developed by the City of Greater Geelong in partnership with the Victorian Government.
Located in the Horseshoe Bend precinct of Charlemont, the facility aims to make important services more accessible for residents of the surrounding communities.
Rather than families needing to visit separate locations for kindergarten, health appointments and community programs, the hub will bring a range of services together in a shared facility.
Its location next to Yirrama Primary School is also intended to make everyday drop-offs and family routines more convenient.
What Facilities Will Be Available?
According to the City of Greater Geelong, the Yirrama Community Hub is expected to include:
- Four kindergarten rooms with a licensed capacity of 132 places, supporting three- and four-year-old programs.
- Three maternal and child health and allied health consultation suites for family health services.
- Large multipurpose community rooms with access to outdoor courtyard areas.
- A community kitchen supporting group activities and programs.
- Small and medium meeting rooms for community groups and local organisations.
- Car parking, bicycle parking and landscaped green spaces for visitors.
These facilities are intended to provide opportunities for learning, health services, recreation and community connection, all within one local destination.
Important for Local Families
The hub is scheduled to open in January 2027. Kindergarten applications are already open, but the opening date and individual service arrangements remain subject to confirmation. Families should check directly with Meli for the latest information about enrolments, availability and program times.
How to Apply for Kindergarten in 2027
One of the most useful aspects of the new development is the addition of kindergarten places for growing families in Charlemont and nearby suburbs.
Meli Kindergarten Services has been appointed to operate Yirrama Kindergarten, which will offer free three- and four-year-old kindergarten programs under the applicable Victorian Government funding arrangements.
Meli has confirmed that applications for its 2027 programs are open. Families can view program information, session timetables and the application process through the official Meli website.
Availability, offers and session arrangements are managed by the kindergarten provider and may change depending on enrolment numbers.

A Design Connected to Wadawurrung Country
The Yirrama Community Hub is located on Wadawurrung Country, and its design incorporates cultural references developed in partnership with Wadawurrung Traditional Owners.
According to Council, the design draws inspiration from the Wadawurrung story of Parrwang, the magpie.
Architectural details include a timber canopy referencing magpie nests in river red gums, outdoor garden beds and gathering spaces, and interior finishes inspired by the local natural environment.
The design aims to create a welcoming environment where children, families and community groups can learn, gather and connect.
When Will Yirrama Community Hub Open?
The City of Greater Geelong currently identifies January 2027 as the expected opening timeframe for the hub.
Construction commenced in June 2025, with the Council reporting progress through building works, commissioning, inspections and preparations for the facility’s future operation.
The project has been planned to support the surrounding growth area while giving residents easier access to important services close to home.
As with any major development, the anticipated opening date may change. Individual service commencement dates and arrangements should be confirmed through Council and Meli.

Why Is This Important for the Local Community?
As residential areas throughout Charlemont, Armstrong Creek and Mount Duneed continue to develop, accessible community infrastructure plays an important role in supporting local families.
New kindergarten places, family health facilities and community rooms can help residents access services closer to home while creating more opportunities for local groups to connect.
For people researching the area as a potential place to live, facilities such as the Yirrama Community Hub also provide useful information about the longer-term development of the neighbourhood.
While community infrastructure may contribute to a neighbourhood’s appeal, future property values depend on many factors, including supply, demand, location and the characteristics of individual properties.
Where Can Residents Find Project Updates?
